My sweet Chloe

I love this picture of Chloe I took today while she was outside playing. Playing outside is her favorite thing to do, and what she does most of the day in the summer.

I got to spend a couple hours with her today, just the two of us. I took her to piano and then we stopped at a couple stores. Nothing much, just some time with her and it was nice. I like just being with her. She talks my leg off, but it is nice to just let her talk and listen to her. Sometimes when it's all of us, it's hard to just focus on her and what she has to say. She's such a sweet girl.

Today is a gift

We saw the Kung Fu Panda movie yesterday for Owen's birthday. I loved it. It was a great little movie with a good lesson. Chloe and Owen loved it too. In the movie is a wise old turtle. In one part the turtle says this:

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present."

I can't stop thinking of that. What a wonderful quote. I hope to remember it every day.

Here are the movie goers before the movie started (the part where Owen kept asking what was taking so long, what was that on the ceiling, were they going to turn off the lights now, what is that smell, does the movie last very long, is it a cartoon.....).

When we went to pick up Phoebe from Mom's house, she was asleep (Phoebe, not Mom!). We took her home and after three attempts, I finally got her to lay down in bed. She is such a creature of habit, had we been home and doing our normal routine, she would have laid right down. She had fun with her Nana though and Nana fed her and gave her a bath. When I asked Phoebe what she did at Nana's she told me that Lucy pooped. Lucy is the dog. Mom said Phoebe found great interest in the whole process. She's hilarious.

We weren't home long and we had a bad storm. I don't like storms when Danny isn't home. It was late when I got Chloe and Owen to bed because of all the birthday excitement. They wanted to play Playstation 2 and finally Chloe fell asleep and I carried her to bed. Then Owen dropped next. All in all, a good birthday I think. I went to bed at 12:30 and at 1:00 the electricity went out. I loathe when the electricity goes out. It didn't come back on until around 7:00 this morning so I hardly slept at all. It's amazing how quiet it is without the ceiling fan and the air conditioner. I hate it. We've had so many storms this Spring and Summer. It's okay, yesterday is history, and today is a gift. When I was little Dad would tuck me in and tell me tomorrow would be a brand new day for baby Jacque. There is always a new day to hope for.

Happy 5th Birthday Owen!!!

Today my baby boy Owen is 5! When he woke up this morning and I told him Happy Birthday he said "I'm not 4 anymore!". He's so excited to be 5! We're having his party this weekend, but to celebrate today, he wanted to go to McDonalds to eat and play. We got our food and went to go outside (regardless that it is 93 degrees), and there was a sign that said the playground was closed for repairs. (A very poor sign I might add. It said "due too repair's" instead of "due to repairs". The teacher in me wanted to correct it! You can see it in the pic of Chloe and Phoebe.) Of all the days!! Bless his little heart, he didn't even get upset. He was happy to eat his nuggets and fries and play with his Kung Fu Panda toy. We told him on the way home we'd stop at the park instead. By then it had started to storm and we didn't get to do that either. He didn't mind and said he wanted to go home and open his presents.

We got him a Playstation 2 and three games. He was so excited when he opened them he actually quivered.

My scanner is broken and I don't have any pictures on my computer from when Owen was born. I tried to take a picture of a few pictures I have, but it didn't work well. This is the best I could do.

He's such a sweet little boy and I'm so happy we have him. He's had a fun day and we'll have lots more fun at his party this weekend. Tonight I'm taking him to the movies to see Kung Fu Panda. Chloe will come along, but Nana is watching Phoebe. So, that should be a good time too! I'll maybe post a pic of that later.

Happy Birthday big boy Owen!!

Ode to Joy

This morning I've been serenaded by the lovely recorder players at my house. Chloe has played Ode to Joy and various other songs she learned at school the past couple years. She's actually pretty good at it. She plays the piano too so she can play songs she normally plays on her piano on the recorder. She has a "real" recorder and Owen has an 88 cent one from Walmart which Phoebe is playing. Notice Phoebe is insisting on wearing her bathing suit today while Chloe is still in her pjs. I'm also in my pjs and Owen is wearing his swim trunks. We're half way to the pool anyway.

Then, just for your entertainment, here is Chloe last night performing a dance for me. Flashdance, anyone???

Do I really need a warning for that?

I bought some new mascara today and on the back of the package it says not to use it in a moving vehicle. Really?

It reminds me of how ridiculous I think it is when you get those little gel packets in things, or the little stay fresh packets of whatever in food, that says Do Not Eat. Why would you eat that? Out of curiosity I googled what was in those packets and it's silica gel to take the moisture out (as an example, they are found in pills/vitamins so the pills don't get wet). Pretty harmless if you ate it. If you were to eat a packet it would take the moisture out of your mouth and make you very thirsty. How many packets would you have to eat to take all the moisture out of your body? A 210 pound man would have to eat 58,800 packets. Now there is an intersting fact for ya!

Back to Blogging!

Incase anyone has missed me, we've been busy and my internet was down for four days, so I haven't blogged much. I don't know who missed the internet more, me or Owen. Poor boy loves the computer. As soon as we got home from camping the last time, he ran to the computer and said he missed his computer and Cartoon Network. He's had allergies or a cold or something for several days. His sniffing can be heard for miles. He will only take a couple different kinds of medicine, but at the store the other day after lots of sniffing, he said he thought he needed some "algae medicine" (instead of allergy). A couple days he threw up from the draining and coughing. He can throw up at the drop of a hat. Today he woke me up at 7:00 and wanted to go to Walmart to buy an Indiana Jones Lego set. He has an agenda today I guess. He is trying to get Chloe out of bed now so we can go to Walmart. He's carrying around a little paper from one of his Legos sets that is showing the Lego set he wants to buy. When he wants me to do something he says he'll give me a smooch if I do it. Yesterday he got mad at me for not letting him go to the neighbor's and said "I'm not going to pick you any more flowers and I'm not going to work any more puzzles with you!". Chloe used to say something similar when she was little and got mad at me, she'd say she wasn't going to play with me any more. Darn it. Anyway! I'm back and will blog some more this week! :)

Cue the Choir!

Phoebe has a new cute thing she does. She has the little Leap Frog Activity Table that plays music. She goes over and turns it on. Then she gets a book (always the same book, I think because it is hardback) and she stands with it open and sings. Cute in itself, but then I realized she is doing it because at church we stand and sing with our hymnals open. SO adorable I can hardly stand it. I can watch her do it over and over. When the music stops, she goes over and starts it again.

As not to leave the other two out and their cuteness, today Chloe and I went to the grocery store together. It doesn't often happen that it is just the two of us. Phoebe and Owen stayed with Danny. Phoebe napped while we were gone. Chloe was helping put the bags in the cart when we were checking out. I thanked her and she said "I don't think you could've handled this on your own".
On the way home from a friend's house this evening we were going along listening to a cd and Owen suddenly said "I've never ate shrimp before". Okay then.

Happy Father's Day!

We've had a good Father's Day today. We went to church and then had a Sunday School picnic. The weather was beautiful and the food was good. We visited Mom and Dad a little and then came home where Danny took at Father's Day nap. :) It's been a restful day. We played outside a little this evening when it cooled down. Here is Danny with the wild things wearing the shirt they made for him.

I'm grateful that my children have such a wonderful father. I'm also grateful that I have a wonderful father. Happy Father's Day to all the dads!

A fun time

Danny's work picnic was yesterday. There was a lot of food and treats, games to play, inflatables, rides, petting zoo, pony rides, and fun. The kids had a blast. Owen said it was the best place ever. Here are a bunch of pics.

Pass the Kool Aid

Owen is the funniest boy ever. He always makes us laugh. The way he phrases things is hilarious. This has been cracking me up for days. He was sitting with me and we were working in a Spiderman workbook about numbers. We had done maybe 4 or 5 pages and I could tell he was not interested anymore. We finished up and he said "Whew, I'm tired, I think I need a Squeeze It".

We've had Vacation Bible School all week and Owen has really been good and has learned a lot. On the way home one evening there was a dead raccoon in the road. He asked why God didn't make it "undead" (after all he healed people and brought them to life in the Bible). We talked about that and then he wanted to know where God was and where heaven was. I gave the generic "in the sky" answer. He said he wished we could go in the sky. Then he said he could if only he had a jet pack.

Last night at the pool he was squirting Emma in the face. I told him to stop several times. Then I finally had to take his squirt toy away. When I gave it back I said he could only have it if he didn't squirt her in the face again. Emma told me he squirted her. When I asked him about it he said he didn't squirt her in the face, he squirted her in the life jacket. I should have been more specific I guess.

Phoebe's in a magazine!

Some of you already know, but Phoebe is in the June edition of Family Fun magazine! She's on page 14 in the Mailbox section. I sent an email and picture to Family Fun about the Sneaky Chef recipe I tried that they featured in their magazine. (I shared the recipe for the Golden Pancakes on this blog awhile ago, and I think the pic too.) It has her picture and her name in the caption on it, and the little note I sent, and my name and where we are from. So cool!

Okay, I went back and found the old post about the pancakes and the pic that's in the magazine. Here's the link: http://wherethewildthingsarefamily.blogspot.com/2008/03/sneaky-chef.html
