Mountaineer Game

Yesterday Danny and I went to Morgantown to watch the WV Mountaineers play Villanova for the opening game of the season. It was a great time and we won 48-21. Mom, Dad, and Betsy watched the kids (and the dog) for us. We didn't get home until midnight, so they stayed the night. It was Phoebe's first time staying the night, and she did great! I missed them and picked them up early this morning. It was so nice to have the whole day with just the two of us though. We haven't been alone for that long for years. It was a lot of fun. It gives you such pride in West Virginia to be there. I love the excitement in the air. There were over 60,000 people, a sell out crowd.

First day of Kindergarten!!

Today my baby boy started Kindergarten. He did fine. Me, not so much. I cried and prayed off and on all day. Phoebe and I stayed busy and I got my hair cut.I was so glad to see him when he got home. He jumped off the bus and said "School was great!". He loved it (he actually said "I love school real good"). He had a note from the teacher that was a positive behavior form that said he had a great day. Some of the things he said he did was; played Legos (he said there were even purple ones), sang the Hokey Pokey, played a naked bear game (where you dress the bear he said), sat on a bright blue rug that had crayons on it, drew a picture of himself, and had a tasty lunch. He talks about a mean guy (he refers to the boys as guys) in his class that apparently did not get a positive behavior form sent home. He doesn't remember his name though, and I'm dying to see who it is because by the sounds of it, he is quite the guy. When I asked if anyone cried today he said only the mean guy when he couldn't get in the prize box. Owen got some pink fangs from the prize box. It was Owen's first bus ride and he says the bus goes real fast. He was disappointed when I told him he doesn't go to school tomorrow. He made the sweetest painting of his handprints with a poem about the first day of school. I am so thankful he had a good day.

Notice the name tag he's wearing. The teacher gave it to him to wear when she came for her home visit. When I took it off this evening, it had made two big holes in his new shirt! I hate pins.

Here he is with the fangs he got from the prize box. He makes this mean face when he wears them.

Happy Birthday Chloe!!

Today my first baby turned 10. It doesn't seem possible. She's happy to be in the double digits, but I wish she wouldn't grow up so fast. She wasn't thrilled about going to school on her birthday, but she had a good day anyway. She requested spaghetti and meatballs with homemade sauce for dinner (you can see the sauce on her face in the pics). Mom, Dad, and Betsy came for dinner with us, and we had ice cream cake to celebrate.

First day of 5th grade

Today was Chloe's first day of 5th grade. I missed her all day. She came home happy and had a good day. We were all happy to see her when she got home.

Owen's Kindergarten teacher and aide came for a home visit today. His teacher was Chloe's teacher and we like her a lot. It makes me feel better about sending my baby off to school. He made her a picture of a snowman and wrote his name. He loves snowmen, and was even a snowman for Halloween a couple years ago.

Another school year, I'm hoping for a good one!

Why is it called a slumber party?

Chloe had her birthday slumber party on Saturday night. I don't know why it's called a slumber party, or a sleepover, there is no slumbering or sleeping going on. They didn't go to sleep until 4:00am. We had 7 girls at the party. Chloe had a great time and there wasn't any girl drama, so all went well. I woke them up to be picked up by 9:00. We went to church, then to my sister Betsy's for a family lunch and fishing at her pond. We all came home to take naps, except Owen who played Legos. Owen's eye still isn't better, though I guess better than it was, I think. The urgent care dr. said it was a sty/boil and gave him an antibiotic, and an antibiotic cream. I may have to take him back to our regular dr. I want it to be better before school starts!

Making a craft at almost midnight. Notice Owen had to join in. He refused to stay the night with Mom and Dad. He didn't want to miss anything. He went to bed soon after this:

And Owen with a fish (Ironically the fish is covering up his sore eye, or sad eye as I've been calling it. He hit Phoebe's hand yesterday and said he couldn't help it he had a sad eye.):

Two sides of Phoebe and Owen's eye

I was holding Phoebe on my lap yesterday. She was drinking her milk and rubbing my cheek so sweet and softly. I was thinking about sweet and lovey she was, when she reached up and squeezed my nose roughly and said "Honk Honk".

Today is a busy day and there always has to be a complication. Chloe's slumber party for her birthday is this evening. This afternoon I have to take her to her piano lesson, have balloons blown up, pick up cupcakes, and return a toy. I will have Phoebe with us. Danny is taking Owen at 1:00 to see Clone Wars at the movies. The problem is one of Owen's eyes is swollen shut nearly. It's red, swollen, and just looks terrible. Thursday evening we were playing outside and he was rubbing his eye and said it itched. He went in the house and got a washcloth he held on it. He woke up yesterday morning with the swollen, red eye. We went and got him some Benadryl. It knocked him out. I felt so bad. He was so excited because Danny took off work last night and we built a fire and roasted hotdogs and marshmallows. Owen bought fireworks at the beach we were going to set off. Mom, Dad, and Nan came up too. While we were sitting around the fire, he fell asleep. We couldn't wake him up. We all took turns holding him. Here he is with my Mom. Benadryl is scary.

We ate but didn't do the fireworks. Hopefully tonight we can. The girls for the party will like that too. We put Owen to bed after everyone left and he didn't wake up until this morning (except briefly in the night to get in bed with us). SO, today Danny is going to take him to Urgent Care right after the movie. It doesn't open until 1:00 so it'll have to wait. I hate not to go too (and Danny has never taken any of them to the dr. on his own), but I have to get things done for the party and who knows when they will get home. We don't feel like he needs to go to the ER (which is a long wait and much more expensive). He acts fine but he looks so pitiful. He says he hopes no one takes his picture because he wouldn't look good in it.

An egg like an apple

I asked Owen what he wanted for breakfast today. He said "An egg. An egg where I can peel it, and hold it, and eat it like an apple". It's Owen, he can't just ask for a boiled egg. ;)

For my breakfast, so far today (it's before 11:00am now), I've had a glass of orange juice, later a poptart, and now Chili Cheese Fritos and Coke. Oh boy.

More Molly

Molly is a big hit around here. She's had visitors bearing gifts and the kids just love her to bits. She is a sweet little puppy. I put her in her crate last night to sleep and she whimpered a good bit in the night. Hopefully she'll get used to it and sleep better. She sleeps a lot during the day and likes to be snuggled. She doesn't eat a lot, but she's tiny. It's just like having a baby in the house, I'm watching that she eats, drinks, pees, and poops. Chloe is doing well with taking her out often and cleaning up after her. She feeds her and is very attentive to her. Molly loves Chloe already. Phoebe and Owen find Molly's crate entertaining.

Owen said a couple funny things today. When we were coming home today in the van he said "How old are goats?". Where did that come from? Then this evening I picked some wildflowers along the edge of the yard and when he saw me carrying them in he said "Oh, you got some weeds?".

He got up early this morning and was tired this evening. He fell asleep in the chair watching tv. He's holding his Clone Wars toy from his Happy Meal from McDonalds today.

A new baby at our house

Chloe got a toy poodle today for her birthday. Her birthday is next week, but she'll be at school so we got it for her a bit early so she can enjoy her. It's a 7 week old girl named Molly Caroline. She's as sweet as can be. Chloe has wanted one for a couple years and we always thought she'd change her mind, but she always asks for one. She is beyond happy.

More from the beach

Phoebe wasn't crazy about the beach. She spent most of her time making this concerned face:

She would often point back to the hotel and say "Back in!". She called the sand dirt and didn't like it in her water shoes or on her hands when it was wet. Once she pointed to the hotel and said "Air!". She's just like me, she loves the air conditioning. She gets the cutest beads of sweat on her nose when she's hot. When I ask her if she had fun at the beach she says no. One night we ate at California Pizza, which we always love at the beach. She ate two pieces of pizza. Later I asked if she liked the pizza. She said "Nooooo. Nothing.".

Owen and Phoebe had a blast. Chloe is a little mermaid. Owen loved it all. He especially liked a pirate we saw at Benjamin's Calabash restaurant. The "pirate" held the door open for everyone and talked with Owen. Owen talked about the pirate all night. He'd randomly say things like; "That pirate didn't have a patch on his eye", "Only bad pirates have a hook on their hand", "Chloe, did you see his big boots?", "I've never seen a real pirate before", "Where does that pirate live?", "What is that pirate's name?". Danny and I however, didn't like that pirate because he held the door open to the restaurant that cost us $100 to eat at (for just the five of us, and Phoebe was free). $100 to a seafood buffet, and sadly, I hate seafood. We didn't know how much it cost until after we ate. We noticed at the beach, prices are not posted. Danny said he wished he could have thrown it up and given it back. Dad and Ed liked it though, so it's okay. Chloe and Owen had fun there. It was so crowded and noisy Phoebe didn't leave my lap, or hip, the whole time. They did have good hushpuppies with yummy butter.

One night we ate at Fudruckers, another one of our favorites. Here's Owen wearing a hat from there and with the cookie tokens for eyes. He kept touching Ed (my sister Betsy's husband) with his dirty hands and Ed kept wiping Owen's hands off. It was hilarious. Ed said he was wearing a new shirt. Do not sit by Owen when he's eating while wearing a new shirt.

It was fun to be on vacation with Mom and Dad again. Near us was an IGA that was a grocery store on the bottom and a gift shop on top. We never went there, but there was a lot of talk of the IGA with Mom, Dad, Betsy, and Ed. One day we had all come back from the beach and Mom said, "Should I get ready for the IGA?". Like it was some glorious place to visit. That is still cracking me up.

Dad, Danny, and Ed did some fishing off the pier. They caught a few fish. Danny and I watched some people catch some sharks. They were small, but it was still impressive. Owen and I walked out on the pier one night to see what the boys were up to. I made the kids wear their life jackets when they were out on the pier. I didn't see anyone else wearing life jackets, but that pier made me nervous.

Not only do I worry about them drowning at the beach, my greatest fear there (and at many other places)is them getting lost. It's so easy to do at the beach. I will never forget a mother one year running down the beach, screaming in terror for her child. So, I had dog tag necklaces with their names and our cell phone numbers on them. (You can see the kids wearing them in most of the beach pictures in my first beach post.)

Chloe and I had fun getting up early and looking for shells. It's something we've done every time we've gone to the beach since she was 2. I wanted to take Phoebe this year but she said no, it wouldn't be special if we took someone with us. She's right. I love that. She laid them out in the hotel room with one shell each on a square on the carpet.

A fun time, but it's good to be home. Minus the laundry.
