5th Grade Field Trip

Yesterday was Chloe's class field trip. We went to Lewisburg to reenactments of the Civil War. There were different stations the kids went to. It was long and a little boring, but the kids had fun. After eating lunch there on the lawn, we went to the Lost World Caverns which the kids enjoyed. Caves creep me out a little, but this one wasn't too bad. Finally we went to Beckley and ate lunch at Ryan's. It was late by then and we were hungry. I ate enough for a week. Chloe asked what about my diet (which I follow loosely at best) and I said I wouldn't worry about it then. She said to her friend "I don't know why my mom is on a diet. I think she's skinny for her age". LOL It was a long tiring day, but fun with no problems. We were on the bus about six hours I guess. I sat with my friend and we talked the whole time on the bus, so that was nice. We left home at 5:30 am and didn't get back until after 11:00 pm. I still haven't recovered. I guess for someone of my age that can be expected. ;)

Abe Lincoln talked to the kids about his life.

Big Girl

Phoebe is always saying "I a big girl". Or she tells us things she'll do when she's a big girl. Her favorite being "When I a big girl, I ride the bus" (Oh, just kill me the day that happens!). But, she is getting so big! She wears panties all the time now and is completely potty trained (except for sleeping). When she uses the potty I still clap and tell her good job, etc. Now when she goes she smiles and says "That make Mommy happy". She is looking older too(I think it's the bangs), and doing big girl things all the time.

Yesterday we watched the first half of the Super Bowl at Mom and Dad's. Uncle Ed gave Phoebe her first orange pop to drink. She smacked and licked her lips like she had never tasted anything better. I asked her where she got the drink and she giggled and said "Ed".

We are back to a normal week this week. The snow and ice are melting and the kids went back to school this morning for the first day in a week. Not much complaining, so that was good. None of us wanted to get up early this morning. Phoebe even went back to sleep in the chair. Even a big girl needs her rest!

New Kid

A conversation yesterday evening with Owen:

O: We have a new kid in our class.

Me: You do? What's their name?

O: It's name is Brianna. Another Brianna.

Me: Is she a nice girl?

O: Yep, she's pretty good. She hasn't hurt anyone.

Me: Well, that's good.

O: She's pretty cute too.

New Clariol Model

I gave Phoebe her bath this evening with Owen. Then she stayed in while Chloe got her bath. When Chloe got out I went in to get Phoebe, and she had washed her hair again. So she had to be rinsed all over again. She has very clean hair tonight.

Today it rained and Phoebe said she needed her rainbrella.

For Owen news, he got Student of the Month at school!

How nice of them

This week the school went to the Fire Station. Owen was impressed. They gave out smoke detectors. Owen opened his up and looked at it this evening. He showed me that it already had a battery in it. He said the firemen must have put the battery in there for him. Then he saw the little packet of screws in the box to hang up the smoke detector. He held them up and said "How nice for them!".

Phoebe has been funny lately too. She was sitting with me when a buzzer noise went off on tv. She said "Food's ready!". She put Chloe's backpack on this evening and went to the door and said "Have a good day! Going to school". She tried to open the door but it was locked. I told her it was dark outside and she couldn't go to school now. She turned around, walked away, and said "Awwww, man". When I walk Owen up to the bus in the mornings I always kiss him and tell him to have a good day. Now before I can say it, he says, "I'll have a good day".

She's figured me out

Chloe's getting wise to me. Yesterday we went to the Dollar Tree (you know, where everything is $1.00). I told the kids they could each have one thing, because I'm generous like that. Owen said "Yay!" and Phoebe got excited too. Chloe on the other hand said, "That would just be $3.00". She got some purple fake hair. Phoebe had to have some too, but she got pink. Owen got a foam sword. Here are the girls this morning in their pajamas sporting their new hair. Phoebe calls it fancy hair.

And here's Chloe's log cabin she had to make for school.

Chloe and Owen are home today because there is no school for students, just teachers. We have these Faculty Senate days once a month. It was nice to have a long weekend. They've been playing all morning and we may pack a lunch and go to the park. I love when they are home from school. This week they go to the fire station and get their school pictures taken. At least its a short week.

Off to school

Today when I was getting the kids out the door to the bus, Phoebe went and got her backpack and put it on too. Owen told her she wasn't going to school, but she didn't care.

This is what I saw when I went to check on Owen last night to make sure he was asleep.

The mask glows green in the dark, so you don't get the full effect in this pic because of the flash, but his room was dark and I expected him to be asleep in bed and instead I see a glowing Hulk sitting up in the bed. Hilarious.

Not a good way to start the week...

Chloe was sick all night last night. I was up with her giving cough medicine, honey, warm tea, hot water bottle, breathing treatments, the usual things when her asthma is flaring up. She had a cold over the weekend (and Owen has a runny nose too, which caused him to throw up Sat. night) and it just moves to her lungs. She stayed home from school today so I could take her to the dr. Owen was worried about going to school without her, so I took him to school and picked him up. He didn't want to ride the bus without her. Then when I took him in this morning he had a pitiful look on his face like he was trying not to cry. I promised I would pick him up and according to him and the teacher, he had a good day. It just breaks my heart to see him upset. I cried (and prayed) the whole way home. It was like the first day of school all over again. I hope it goes better tomorrow. Chloe won't go again tommorrow so I hope he'll be brave.

At the dr. they didn't like the sound of Chloe's wheezing, so they gave her a breathing treatment and finally sent us home with an antibiotic, steriod, breathing treatments, and cough syrup. We were at the dr. a couple hours and the pharmacy an hour. Phoebe was pretty wild and fell asleep on the way home. At the dr. they told us that Chloe had grown 5 inches and gained 8 pounds since January!

Tonight at school was Open House. Owen and I went and visited his room and Chloe's. Owen had to show me every little part to his room. Here he is at his spot at his table.

He sits beside of Lilian who he says he is afraid of. I asked why he was afraid of her, and he said "She scares me", and I asked why, and he said "She has sharp teeth". I can't wait to meet her and see what he means. When I asked what color her hair was he said "bright black". I could tell he does like her. He continues to do well at Kindergarten and brings home his green card every night showing his behavior was good.

Hopefully our week will improve!

First day of 5th grade

Today was Chloe's first day of 5th grade. I missed her all day. She came home happy and had a good day. We were all happy to see her when she got home.

Owen's Kindergarten teacher and aide came for a home visit today. His teacher was Chloe's teacher and we like her a lot. It makes me feel better about sending my baby off to school. He made her a picture of a snowman and wrote his name. He loves snowmen, and was even a snowman for Halloween a couple years ago.

Another school year, I'm hoping for a good one!

School's Out!

Today was the last day of school. Chloe didn't actually go, but it was the last day. ;) It was just Field Day and it was in the 90s and I knew she'd be so hot. I was afraid her asthma would be bad too. She didn't want to go anyway. I went and picked up her report card. She got all As. I can't believe she'll be in the 5th grade!

This was Phoebe this morning when I was up on the chair cleaning:

I took these pics of Owen for his birthday invitations. Which one should I use?

Awards and Ears

Today was Awards Day at school. Chloe got several awards and was recognized for several things. Only three more days left of school!

Yesterday Phoebe came in and said "ears". I turned to look at her and saw this:

It's a terrible picture of her and she has spaghetti sauce all over her face, but it's hilarious! She loves Mr. Potato Head (or Mr. Tomato Head as Owen says). She wears the glasses often too:

I think she wonders why I'm laughing at her. :)
