Fire hazard

We went camping a few weeks ago for the first camping trip this year. It was chilly but we had fun. Owen was sitting too close to the fire once, and we told him to hurry and scoot back. He did and said, "Do I still have my eyebrows??". We are still saying that, a month later.

The lone boy

Owen just came to me and said,

"You know the two girls in the house?"

Hmmm... let me see. Yep, I know them. Gave birth to them. I've seen them around.

"They made a mess in my room, and they won't clean it up".

He is highly concerned about the state of the house now that Santa will be coming soon. One night he went to bed and looked around and told me I'd better clean the place up. I'm working on it. I'm working on it.....

Tropical Evening

I bought the kids some juice boxes for breakfast called Tropical Morning. Owen really liked them. He wanted one in the evening. He said "Can I have a Tropical Evening?". Such a clever little sneak.

Mountain Music

In music class the kids are learning Mountain Music by Alabama. Previously they've learned Rocky Top and Country Roads. I sense a WV theme here. I'd forgotten about Mountain Music. It's been fun listening to Chloe and Owen sing it. Here's the chorus :

Oh, play me some mountain music, like grandma and grandpa used to play.
Then Ill float on down the river to a cajun hideaway

Drift away like Tom Sawyer, ride a raft with ol Huck Finn.
Take a nap like Rip Van Winkle, daze dreamin again.

Owen was singing it today and sang the part about the "cajun hideaway". Then he said "I wonder what is in that cage?". Hilarious. How do I explain cajun??

A new meaning to flashcards

A quick Owen funny. He's been into getting ready for Kindergarten. I bought him a cool workbook (Summer Bridge Activites, and one for Chloe's grade too) and he was working so well in it this evening for me. I told him there were flashcards in the back we'd have to cut out. He looked at me so seriously and said, "Do the flashcards light up?".
