Our brave boy

Today Owen had his check up for Kindergarten and his shots. He needed four. He didn't cry one bit. Not even a tear. He didn't have to be held down. He laid on the table and took it like such a big boy. I could've cried for him. He was so brave and good for the whole thing. We were very proud of him. Afterward we took him to Dairy Queen for an ice cream cone. He was 39 pounds and 42 inches, 50% for both. His leg is hurting some tonight but I gave him some Tylenol and an ice pack. He's running around and playing so it is okay.

Phoebe had her 18 month check up while we were at the dr. She is a healthy girl and doing well. She is in the 75% for both her height and weight. She was almost 27 pounds and 32 inches. She was worried about Owen when they were giving him shots. So, we had a successful trip to the doctor, and I am glad it's over!

What's your house made out of?

The kids have been saying some funny things lately. Owen was describing a neighbor's house to tell about something. The house is a nice log home. He described it by saying it was the house made out of lincoln logs. I thought that was so cute!

He was funny at the mall today too. We went into Limited Too because Chloe wanted to,and Owen said "OH, I don't want to go in here! It's too girly!" The only thing he's interested in at the mall is the water fountain to throw pennies in, a pretzel and a slushie, and maybe the candy store and the toy store.

Phoebe was funny yesterday. We were at Subway and an older man with a long white beard came in and she said "HO HO!" very excited. I guess she thought he was Santa.

Then today Danny bought a dog box for taking the dog in his truck. When he came out of the store where we were waiting, he was telling about the cashier. He said when he paid she was very friendly and said, "Thank you EVER so much". Chloe then said "I guess they were really wanting to get rid of that."

Field Trip

Chloe went on the fourth grade field trip today to the Clay Center (a children's museum in Charleston). I went along and we had a lot of fun together. Here are some pictures of her there.

Yo! Check out the bling!

This is so hilarious! Chloe brought this necklace home from the prize box at school. She wouldn't wear it for me to take a picture, but Owen was glad to pose for me. Click on the pic so you can get the full detail of it! LOL

Chloe went with the school today to a Youth Expo and she got her face painted.
You and can tell we had spaghetti for dinner, Chloe and Owen both have sauce on their faces in these pics. ;)

Another egg hunt and recipes

A couple pictures of Phoebe I liked from today:

We had a potluck at Playgroup. I took a broccoli salad I often take to potlucks, and a fat free cake that is still yummy! Here are the recipes and pics.

Broccoli Salad
3 cups broccoli, cut into bite sized pieces
1 red onion, chopped (I never use this much. I use maybe 1/4 cup.)
1 cup cheddar cheese, grated
6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled (I usually just use real bacon pieces, like bacos used in salad)
Combine and use with the following dressing.
1 cup mayo
1/4 cup sugar
2 T vinegar
Mix well and pour over salad.

Angel Lush Cake
1 pkg (4-serving size) vanilla pudding
1 can (20 oz) crushed pineapple in juice, undrained
1 cup thawed Fat Free Cool Whip
1 pkg angel food cake (8.5 oz but I used a larger one because it's all I could find)

Mix pudding mix and pineapple. Stir in whipped topping.
Cut cake horizontally into 3 layers.
Spread pudding mixture on each layer and the top.
Garnish with strawberries. Refrigerate at least 1 hour.

We had another egg hunt at Playgroup. I think this is our final one for the year. It was nice weather for it. Here are a few pics of Owen and Phoebe hunting eggs.

Messy girl and an egg hunt

Here is Phoebe yesterday eating a piece of Easter candy, and then after she got cleaned up. Then here she is eating a strawberry. I think she ate a whole quart of them yesterday!

Yesterday at Story Hour they had an egg hunt. Here is Owen hunting eggs and he and Phoebe together checking out the loot.

Happy Easter!

I am having trouble with the pics, I can't see them until I preview, so I can't insert the text in between. We had a very long night last night with Phoebe awake from 1:00-5:00 so we were zombies this morning getting Easter baskets and getting ready for church. We had a nice Easter anyway. These are pics from the day, at home, at church, and at Mom and Dad's after church. We had a busy day with church, then to Mom and Dad's, then to my Nan's, then home for a bit, and then to my Grandma and Grandpa's. Here's to any early bedtime!

Happy Easter!

Easter cake

We made this Easter cake today. It's so simple, just make a yellow cake in two round pans. Then put on chocolate icing. Around the edge put yellow Peeps (not seperated) and in the center put chocolate chips for the sunflower "seeds".

Birds Nests

Chloe and I made these little Easter treats today. They are very easy and fun to do. Just melt a package of butterscotch chips (Chlo did them in the microwave) and stir in a can (5 oz) of Chow Mein noodles. Make into "nests" on waxed paper or greased cookie sheet. Quickly add little eggs or jelly beans. We used Cadbury mini eggs. I think you could probably use peanut butter chips too. Here's Phoebe right now taking a nap:
Here is Owen yesterday. Who knew an Easter egg half could be a clown nose if held in your mouth and over your nose just so. ;)

Bunny Basket

Here's an easy Easter craft. You just cut the top off a gallon jug (water or milk, etc) and then decorate it like a bunny. Chloe used construction paper for the ears, eyes, and nose and glued them on (you can staple the ears if you want). Then she used a permanent marker for the mouth, whiskers, and eyelashes. I like it because it has a built in handle. I hid eggs in the living room (it's raining outside) and she hunted them and put them in her basket. Owen wasn't interested in crafting or egg hunting, and Phoebe went around grabbing all the eggs. :)

Potty time!

I had no intention of potty training Phoebe so soon, but I did buy a potty because she was so interested in the toilet and was showing many signs of readiness. So we got it yesterday and I sat in the living room and we talked about it a little. She liked it and sat on it (with her clothes on) and read. Later she put Easter eggs in it. Then in the evening, Owen peed in it! Crazy boy! Then after Owen's bath yesterday, and right before Phoebe's bath, I was dressing Owen and Phoebe went in the bathroom with Chloe and peed on the potty! I was surprised. Chloe and I were clapping and yelling and Owen tried to shake her hand and said "Good Job". ;) Here she is very excited. Sorry for the poor edit job, but I didn't want her flashing the world. ;) I was excited but sad in a way too, my baby is growing so fast! We won't actively train yet, I'll just let her lead for now. I have to add this too. I went to check on Chloe last night and here she was sound asleep in the middle of reading. She played outside for about six hours yesterday with Marly, so she was tired!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

We started our St. Patrick's Day with having green eggs for breakfast. The kids gobbled them up, they didn't care they looked gross. ;) They scrambled them and added the green food coloring. We also played with green play dough we had made and made shamrock hats. We're going to make cookies this afternoon. It's Spring Break this week so we hope to do some fun things together.

An Old Irish Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind always be at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

and rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

An Irish Prayer

May God give you...

For every storm, a rainbow,

For every tear, a smile,

For every care, a promise,

And a blessing in each trial.

For every problem life sends,

A faithful friend to share,

For every sigh, a sweet song,

And an answer for each prayer.

Easter pictures

I took the kids to get Easter pictures taken this morning. Phoebe was scared and cried almost the whole time. We didn't get a single smile from her. Here's the best one:

I wanted one of Phoebe by herself but she just wouldn't cooperate. Here's the only one where you couldn't see her crying or being upset. ;)

Sweet sleep

When I went in last night to check on Chloe she had fallen asleep with her lamp on (she had been reading) and I went to turn it off and this is what I found:

She had put some of her "pets" in bed with her and had them covered up beside her. I thought it was just the sweetest thing ever. She is still such a little girl, even though I get glimpses of the big girl she is becoming. I will treasure the little girl as long as I can!
