I'm Gonna Have a Blow Up (and Potato Soup)

Owen says lots of funny things and I thought I'd share a recent one. He and Chloe (and Daddy) like Toaster Strudel (I know, I know, not very healthy). Owen usually likes strawberry. One morning this week I asked if he wanted an apple one. He said yes, so I fixed it for him and went to do something else. He promptly comes in and says "If you don't get me a toaster strudel, I'm going to have a blow up!". I said I had already given him one and he said "It wasn't red!!". Well, excuse me!

I try to remember these cute things when he's driving me nuts. Which has been a lot today. He has hit both his sisters and refuses to clean his room. When I get on to him for it he uses the pity plea and says not to say mean words to him (who knew clean your room, or go to time out, or stop it, or be nice were mean words) and says "But I'm your love bug". His room currently looks like a tornado has hit.

As for the potato soup, I made some today for Mom who came home from the hospital this morning. Our family has had enough of hospitals this week. First Phoebe and then Mom. She had a heart catherization yesterday but it turns out her heart is healthy. Thank God! Here's the recipe for potato soup:

5 cups potatoes, cubed
1 cup celery, diced
1 cup carrots, sliced
1 cup onions, diced
5 cups water
Cook until tender.
Add:
2 cans cream of chicken soup. Then 1 pound of Velveeta cheese. Heat until cheese melts.

Snow Day!

We got some snow last night and this morning, so Chloe is home from school today. It was nice to get some extra sleep and just hang out today. After being at the hopsital all night on Monday it was good to catch up on my sleep. Here's Miss Chloe today being silly, and enjoying her day off. How she stood the cold and wind I don't know. She played outside with our neighbor Marley and I think they are now popsicles.

Hospital Stay

Phoebe was admitted to the hospital yesterday with croup. She sounded terrible and her oxygen level was only 74 when we got to the doctor. After steriods and epi breathing treatments she got better pretty quickly but spent the night in an oxygen tent. She continues steriods until tomorrow and sees the dr. again on Tuesday. We're glad to be home today and hope to get some rest tonight!! Here she is before we went to the dr.

Love You

Phoebe said "Love You" for the first time tonight. She said it to Daddy after she told him "night night" and he said good night and love you to her. So sweet.

Here are the kids today.

Hide and Seek

Owen has recently discovered (or rediscovered) Hide and Seek. He's not so good at the concept though. He tells me where he's hiding and not to look there. For example, here he is hiding where he said to me that he was hiding under the blanket so don't look there! When I search for him and "can't find him" he comes out and says he won. :)

I have found out the hard way that he doesn't really want me to hide. Last week he wanted me to hide, so I hid behind the bathroom door. While I was behind the door, the light was on and Chloe and Phoebe stood laughing at me, so it wasn't that hard to guess where I was. Well, he looked a few places and then totally freaked out when he couldn't find me. I came out immediately when I realized he was scared, and he held onto my neck and cried forever. So FYI, don't really hide when Owen tells you to!

Chloe used to do sort of the same things when she was little. She'd hide and when I'd look around for her she'd give clues like, "Look behind the chair!". ;)

My first blog post!

I have recently found it very entertaining to read other mommy blogs. This being the fifth day of us trapped in the house because of the weather, I have some time on my hands. SOOOO I decided to start a blog and join the craze. :) It's been so snowy Owen apparently thinks it is still Christmas. Here's our conversation this morning at breakfast:

Me: What do you want to do today?

Owen: Make gingerbread men cookies?

Me: Well, it's not Christmas.

Owen: Oh! I hate that.

Out of boredom, we made the gingerbread men anyway. Here are the wild things cooking. :)

And then, here they are eating their masterpieces.

Now it's off to wash up all the dishes and clean up the mess!
